Dong Quai Tea and Ulcers

Dong quai, also known as Chinese Angelica, is often collected for its root which is prominently used by herbalists for medicinal purposes. This root is often ground into a powder which is then generally used to make dong quai root tea. Among the many purported uses that can be derived from dong quai tea, dong quai is used to help ease pains such as those associated with menstrual cramps. Some herbalists will also recommend this tea for reducing the pain and encouraging the healing of ulcers.

What are Stomach Ulcers?

Stomach ulcers, or peptic ulcers, are areas of damage that can be found on the inner lining of the stomach, esophagus, and duodenum. Most peptic ulcers are caused by bacteria, though others can be caused by certain anti-inflammatory drugs, stress, and other miscellaneous causes such as smoking. The treatment of a stomach ulcers may vary between individual patients depending on the location and the severity of the ulcer. In most cases it can take 4 to 5 weeks for an ulcer to heal, even with treatment. Symptoms of a peptic ulcer include nausea, bloating, heartburn, and feelings of a burning or gnawing feeling in the upper stomach. It is strongly recommended to consult with a doctor if you feel you are suffering from stomach ulcers in order to receive proper treatment.

Drinking Dong Quai Tea

Ingesting dong quai tea on a regular basis is sometimes recommended by herbalists in order to help encourage healing and reduce pain. Dong quai tea contains mild anti-inflammatory properties which can be helpful for reducing some of the pain that can be brought on by stomach ulcers. It is not recommended to drink any herbal teas if you are currently nursing, pregnant, or suffering from a serious condition unless you consult with a doctor prior to doing so.
